On the article Catanzaro Supporters Hijack School Board Meeting

UDSportsfan,
Please reconsider your notion that Keith has some kind of agenda to push in his reporting, because it is inaccurate. Keith's reporting accurately portrays the meeting and dynamic of the situation: a coach's contract was not renewed, public commenters wanted to know why and believed there were special interests involved, and the board did not comment on the specifics of their decision. In addition, no one spoke in support of the board's decision. To say that Keith "did not want to know the answer," is silly. What if the answer was that no e-mails had been received in support of the board, does that make those supporting Catanzaro correct? The issue at hand is that the nature of any complaint or complaints that had been received are not being shared with the public. The board has every right to do so, but those supporting Catanzaro also have every right to ask for an explanation. In my opinion, that's the storyline here, and Keith has reported it accurately.
[Full disclosure: I am a Patch editor who previously covered the girls' basketball team and am a distant relative of Catanzaro.]

Hi Civic,
We approached the Plymouth Township Police several times in reference to police reports, and were not granted access from the communications desk. However, reports in some form are considered public record and Patch is working to obtain these in the future. Thank you.

ReplyHi Mark,
Valid points, but a tricky situation. First, in almost all of these cases, the violation is fixed on the spot. If there are major concerns that can't be fixed, they get scheduled for a re-inspection a month later.
It's rather tough-- and likely biased-- for an editor to hand down judgments about whether or not readers should visit each location. The reports are rather straight forward and do have basic descriptions of the violation at the bottom. I think it's more for the reader to decide whether they can...stomach... the location's violations or not.

ReplyJoe,
I was a bit confused on the 06/07 myself, but according to district administrators, the "cash option" only exists on the '06 bonds. The '07 is straight forward and will be refinanced for the estimated $278,628 savings, regardless of what they choose for '06, as stated in the third to last paragraph. -

Thank you for reading and writing. As with any story, I have been watching all comments closely and always take into account what people share for formulating story ideas. To my memory, there have not been any extended discussions about newly matriculating students at school board meetings and this is the first time the apparent issue is presenting itself in the public sphere.

Kraut, according to a member of the police department I spoke with, a reduced narcotic citation is usually given when the person had in their possession a small amount of a controlled substance.
