LAKELAND VILLAGE, CA — Two people were forced to flee their Lake Elsinore area home Friday after their residence was engulfed in flames.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., nearby residents reported seeing black smoke erupting from the home in the 33500 block of Skylark Drive in Lakeland Village, Karina Espinoza told Patch.

"A single-story, single-family dwelling, approximately 50 percent of the home was actively burning upon the firefighters' arrival," she said.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location, and the fire was contained by 1:30 p.m. The home was rendered uninhabitable. The home was in close proximity to the Cleveland National Forest, and firefighters quickly established hose lays, preventing the flames from spreading into the surrounding vegetation.

They were expected to remain in the area until at least 4 p.m., conducting mop-up operations.
