Newport's Wealthiest Homes Robbed, Unclaimed Property Remains

Newport Beach police discovered a storage unit full of stolen property & cash in December. Now, they are still seeking the rightful owners.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Stolen jewelry, watches and other items recovered during an ongoing criminal investigation will be displayed in a public showing at the Newport Beach Police Department on Friday, February 15th, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In December, 18-year-old Aquinas Kasbar was arrested on suspicion of numerous break-ins to some of the wealthiest addresses in Newport Beach.

"If you believe that your property may have been recovered, please bring a copy of your crime report, case number, valid identification, and any other information that may help detectives positively identify your property," officers said.

On Dec. 1, 2018 Newport Beach Police found the suspect, Aquinas Arrigo Kasbar, in possession of both stolen property and burglary tools," a department spokesperson said. "Kasbar was arrested on numerous charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, identity theft and resisting arrest."

According to the Newport Beach Indy, the suspect is the same Newport resident who was seen riding an air mattress on waves off the wedge over the summer, and was a former Corona Del Mar middle school student.

Detectives, following numerous warrants, discovered a storage unit containing "a large amount of suspected stolen property valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars," they said.

"Much of the recovered stolen property is believed to be related to this recent series of Newport Beach residential burglaries," a department spokesperson said.
