​2 Men Arrested After 1 Found With Assault Rifle Without Serial Number

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Two people were arrested by Sonoma County sheriff's deputies after allegedly being in possession of an assault rifle without a serial number.

Deputies pulled over 29-year-old Toribio Hernandez-Salazar and 33-year-old Carlos Hernandez-Lopez in a vehicle on Thursday at Stony Point Road and Hearn Avenue, in Santa Rosa.

Both were allegedly found to have multiple arrest warrants. Hernandez-Salazar was also determined to be a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The firearm found in the vehicle was described as an AR-15-style rifle with a large capacity drum magazine, no serial number, a collapsable buttstock, pistol grip and magazine release, which are all illegal in California, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Hernandez-Salazar was accused of possession of the weapon, while Hernandez-Lopez was accused of possession of a small amount of narcotics.

Hernandez-Salazar was arrested on multiple firearms-related allegations, including possession of an assault weapon. Hernandez-Lopez was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

Both were booked into Sonoma County Jail.
