πŸ“° Here are the top stories today in Grand Junction:

  1. The police had to intervene in a disagreement between neighbors in the 700 block of S. Highway 50. Just before noon, two men got into an argument, when one of the neighbors brandished a knife. It took SWAT to get him out and placed under arrest. (City of Grand Junction)
  2. If you like to ride your bike on the One Riverfront Trail, you know that you’ll need to do some workarounds between 33 1/2 and 36 1/4 roads. Just in case local officials forgot, cyclists did a bike ride to direct attention to the missing portion. β€œMesa County has approved a study to look at alternative routes for the trail to finally connect Palisade to the rest of a trail that stretches all the way out to Loma.” (NBC)
  3. Did you go to the meeting at the Grand Junction Church of Christ on Tuesday? The topic of discussion was a β€œpossible Interstate 70 interchange in the 29 Road area.” The city and county are now partnering to go ahead with the project. The first step is an environmental study. (The Daily Sentinel/paywall)
  4. According to the American Water Works Association, Grand Junction has the second-best tasting water. In first place was the City of Miramichi in New Brunswick, Canada, which took home the award for β€œBest of the Best Water Taste Test.” Emporia, Kansas, won the β€œPeople’s Choice Water Taste Test.” β€œThe Best of the Best Water Taste Test is determined by a panel of judges that included trained water flavor profilers, and the People’s Choice Taste Test is determined by conference attendees.” (AWWA)
  5. A shoutout to 13-year-old Alivia Nicodemus! Acting as CEO of Home-Town MacramΓ©, the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce’s Young Entrepreneur Program selected Nicodemus as a Saunders Scholar finalist. The contest is open to middle and high school students. (Western Slope Now)

  • "This summer, Roice-Hurst Humane Society’s Furry Friends Kids Camp is back! Children ages 6-12 will learn all about dogs and cats, from how to greet them to how to care for them, make treats and toys, practice positive reinforcement training for dogs and cats, and spend quality time interacting with our animals. Our team will open the wonderful world of animals to your child with activities that emphasize safety, empathy, and compassion. July 24-27 – 8:45 a.m.-noon. Space is limited to 21 kids. Cost is $100 for the four-day camp. Scholarships are available." (Roice-Hurst Humane Society)
  • Old Crow Medicine Show: July 17! It began in late September 1998 when a monkey wrench gang of old-time string band musicians, most of us still in our teens, left Ithaca, New York to cross the Canadian border and play our way to the Pacific. We brought our pawnshop fiddles, banjos, guitars and washboards to downtown street corners across Ontario, to paper mill towns above Lake Superior, farmers markets in Manitoba, Indian reservations in South Dakota, and out to the streets of Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle and Portland. Along the way we discovered a unique country sound, both old and new, foreign and familiar. We knew we had captured something special. (Amphitheater at Las Colonias Park)
  • "Buddy Jewell and Curtis Grimes are playing Warehouse 2565 on July 13." (Song Kick)
  • "Please visit http://tax.colorado.gov/rebuilding-after-a-declared-wildfire-disaster to learn about the Sales and Use Tax Refund for Rebuilding after a Declared Wildfire Disaster or sign up to receive email notifications when updates are available." (Mesa County Colorado)
