CT Homeowner Finds Illegal Monkey In Shed

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — An illegal marmoset monkey was captured in Old Saybrook Monday night after a homeowner found the monkey in their shed, according to multiple reports.

The monkey, which cannot legally be owned in Connecticut, was captured with the help of its owner and relocated, according to WFSB.

No one was injured, and neither was the monkey, a spokesperson for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection told CT Insider.

The spokesperson did not say whether any charges are being filed, according to the outlet.

Marmosets, defined as any of numerous species of small long-tailed South American monkeys, primarily eat insects in addition to fruit, tree sap, and other small animals, Encyclopedia Britannica says.

The marmoset family includes at least 51 species, and 20 subspecies, according to the New England Primate Conservancy.
