ELLINGTON, CT — This week's journey to a Hidden Gem takes us to a nook of a small shopping plaza situated up a hill off West Road in Ellington.

There, we find an adventure in Italian cuisine.

Welcome to Trattoria da Lepri, where owner Deborah Lepri presents fresh, gourmet food utilizing local grass-fed beef, fresh seafood, and seasonal, organic vegetables from both local farms and the restaurant's very own garden.

Trattoria da Lepri offers gourmet Italian cuisine, fresh seafood, and creative beef dishes in a relaxed, traditional atmosphere. Crafted cocktails, local brews and an extensive wine list are also featured.

"It's so good," one reader said. "In the Summer, they have their own garden with over 120 heirloom tomato plants, lots of herbs, Shishito peppers, etcetera. They make all of their own pasta in house and it's a scratch kitchen. In all seasons, all ingredients are as fresh as you can get. They use produce from local farmers and get beautiful micro greens from a local program that employs people with special needs."

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday and, because of its small size, reservations are "highly recommended." The restaurant does not accept reservations for the bar.
