Decorated Former NASA Astronaut To Speak In Greenwich

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Library will welcome Captain Scott Kelly, former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Navy captain, for a keynote address on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Berkley Theater as part of the Lynne and Richard Pasculano Signature Series.

Registration is required and opens Wednesday, Oct. 29, at greenwichlibrary.org.

Kelly, selected as an astronaut in 1996, is a veteran of four spaceflights. He piloted Space Shuttle Discovery to the Hubble Space Telescope in 1999 and commanded Space Shuttle Endeavour on a mission to the International Space Station in 2007. His long-duration flight experience includes two flights on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft and two commands aboard the International Space Station: a 159-day mission in 2010–2011 and a record-setting 340-day mission in 2015.

During the yearlong "Year in Space" mission, Kelly conducted three spacewalks before returning in March 2016. His mission was chronicled in a TIME documentary series and an Emmy Award-winning PBS special.

Kelly has logged more than 200 million miles in space - more than twice the distance to the sun - and orbited the earth more than 8,300 times. Before NASA, he flew the F-14 Tomcat as a fighter pilot aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Kelly is the author of the New York Times–bestselling memoir "Endurance: A Year in Space, a Lifetime of Discovery," as well as the photo collection "Infinite Wonder." His most recent book is "Ready for Launch: An Astronaut’s Lessons for Success on Earth."

Kelly’s identical twin brother, Mark Kelly, is also a former NASA astronaut and is the senior U.S. senator from Arizona.

The Lynne and Richard Pasculano Signature Series features nationally recognized speakers for programs that engage the Greenwich community and region.
