Police Conducting Drone Training Exercise In Greenwich Monday: Details

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department, in coordination with the Greenwich Fire Department and Greenwich Emergency Medical Services, will conduct a drone training exercise at Tod's Point from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Residents and visitors may notice an increased presence of emergency personnel and vehicles in the area, as well as drones operating overhead, police said in an announcement.

"There is no cause for alarm — this is a planned training exercise," police said.

The training is being done to enhance "coordination and readiness" between Greenwich's first responder agencies in using drone technology for public safety operations.

"We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation as we continue to strengthen our preparedness and response capabilities," police said.

Drone technology is becoming more prevalent in public safety operations.

The City of Stamford recently launched its "Public Safety Drone as First Responder Program."

The program was put to use on Oct. 10 when a drone was deployed to the scene of a fire at a high-rise building.
