Student Seen Reviewing Online Material Related To Explosives, Greenwich Police Say

GREENWICH, CT — A student at Greenwich High School on Friday was "observed reviewing online material related to explosives in a common area of the school," according to the Greenwich Police Department.

School Resource Officers were notified by school administration about the incident.

"While there was no direct threat made, the matter was taken very seriously. The student’s electronic device was confiscated, and a comprehensive risk assessment was conducted by school administrators in coordination with the Greenwich Police Department," police said in a Facebook post.

The student’s family was immediately contacted and is cooperating fully with law enforcement and school officials, police added, noting the student will not return to school until they are cleared by the appropriate professionals.

Police said the incident is believed to be "isolated," and there is no known threat to the public or school community.

Further information will not be released at this time, police said, citing an ongoing investigation.

Superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools Dr. Toni Jones and GHS Principal Ralph Mayo sent an email to families and staff on Friday about the incident.

"I would like to thank the multiple students that made us aware of this situation and did not hesitate to report the matter to us. Because of their swift work, we can all remain safe and this student will now be able to receive the help needed," the email said.

"We continue to ask you to have conversations with your child about their well-being and to ask for help if needed. Our counselors are available to our families. To reiterate, there is no threat to our school."
