I-84 Traffic Delays In Southington Expected To Last For Weeks

Motorists can expect lane/shoulder closures on Interstate 84 starting this week, continuing into late February.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Motorists on Interstate 84 in Southington can expect some traffic delays caused by lane and shoulder closures starting Thursday, Jan. 22.

The state Department of Transportation is conducting construction work at Exit 31 off I-84 starting Thursday, Jan. 22, and continuing to Friday, Feb. 20.

The DOT has longterm plans to replace three bridges at Jude Lane, West Street, and Curtiss Street, overpasses that span I-84 in Southington.

Work will start on Thursday on "geotechnical subsurface investigations" associated with the project, the DOT reported.

The state has hired Enviroconsultants & Recyclers Inc. out of Danbury to perform the work.

As a result, the state said there will be multiple lane closures on I-84 east and west at Exit 31 starting Thursday, Jan. 22, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

"Traffic control signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone," The DOT said in a statement.

"Motorists should be aware that modifications to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions."

The state urged motorists to "maintain a safe speed" while driving in the area.
