Amazon Hiring Thousands In FL Ahead Of Holiday Season

Online retail giant Amazon recently announced that the company plans to hire 250,000 people to fill various positions this holiday season, including thousands in Florida.

According to the company, Amazon plans to add 13,500 seasonal workers in Florida.

Amazon has 30 fulfillment and sortation centers, 38 delivery stations and one air hub in Florida, according to the company. Currently, Amazon employs more than 55,000 full- and part-time employees.

"We find that our seasonal roles are really popular — often filling up within minutes of being posted — because they meet different needs for so many different people," said Sandy Gordon, vice president of global operations for Amazon. "For some, it’s a few months of extra income to support their families during the holidays. For others, it’s the first step in building a new career path."

Regular full- and part-time employees will earn an average of $23 per hour with benefits, and seasonal employees can earn an average wage of over $19 per hour.

Roles will be posted weekly from October through December on hiring.amazon.com.

Amazon also announced that it will invest more than $1 billion toward compensation for hourly fulfillment and transportation employees. That means total compensation will now average more than $30 per hour, with up to a 35 percent pay increase for some employees.
