Though police did not release the relation between Tolliver and the victim, WXIA-TV reported they are father and son. Police did not identify the son, but he was named in the news report as Durante Schofield.

The woman called Tolliver to de-escalate the dispute between her and Schofield, who were dating, the news outlet reported, citing an arrest warrant.

Tolliver was attempting to calm down Schofield at the time of the shooting and thought his son was reaching for a gun in his waistband; then, Tolliver was accused of shooting his son 12 times, killing him, WXIA reported.

There were no jail records available for Tolliver on Friday.
