Bandtastic to Celebrate 3rd Anniversary at Peace

Summer Band Camp to be held at Peace Baptist Church in Decatur

Bandtastic will celebrate its third sensational summer by having a two-week band camp from June 1-12 at Peace Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. Bandtastic provides an enriching atmosphere for young musicians to sharpen their musical skills in an exhilarating, learning environment. It is designed for students in grades 6-11, who have instrumental experience. The camp will explore classical, jazz, pop, blues and religious music. Bandtastic will feature sectionals with conservatory-trained musicians, marching instructions from directors of top area bands, career development opportunities, music theory and mock auditions. The camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lunch included. Before and after care will also be offered at an hourly rate. The students will demonstrate what they have learned at the final concert scheduled for Friday, June 12 at 2p.m. The concert is open to the public.


The Founder/Director of Bandtastic is Rawn Hairston, who serves as the band director at the Greenforest Christian Academy. Assistant Director Angelica Hairston is a 2015 graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. Clinicians will include Clarinetist Bryan Crumpler, who has performed as a soloist and orchestral/chamber musician in England, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands; Flutist and Price Middle School Orchestra Director Tara Byrdsong. Jazz sectionals will be led by Rickey Green, band director at Redan Middle School. The marching band instructor will be Jervon Moore, band director at Redan High School. Trombone sectionals will be led by Derrick Montgomery, who has played with the Ludwig, Atlanta, Macon, Augusta, and Albany Symphony Orchestras, as well as the New Atlanta Philharmonic and Vega String Quartet. The Drumline will be led by Terran Taylor, director of percussion at Clark Atlanta University.

“If you enjoy performing and want to improve your musical skills, Bandtastic is the place to be this summer!” says Rawn Hairston. The camp will include extracurricular activities such as basketball, board games and video games, art and yoga. Field trips will include Malibu Grand Prix and Gwinnett Ice Skating Forum.
