Freeze Warning Issued For Chicago Area

Widespread frost is expected Thursday night, and again on Friday night.

Chilly temperatures are possible the next few nights, and the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory and freeze warning for all of northern Illinois (besides the city of Chicago) for Thursday night.

A frost advisory is in effect for southern Cook County, and a freeze warning is in effect for DuPage, Will, Kane, Kendall, McHenry, DeKalb, Grundy, Kankakee and Winnebago counties, as well as most of northern Illinois.

"Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," the weather service said. "Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered."

Low temperatures on Thursday night could be between 29 and 36 degrees, according to the weather service.

Another round of frost is also possible in some locations on Friday night into Saturday morning. Low temperatures between 32 and 38 degrees are expected Friday night, according to the current forecast.

Temperatures will warm slightly into the weekend, with a high of 61 on Saturday and 62 on Sunday. Lows at night will be in the 40s.
