The holiday season can be especially difficult for neighbors struggling to make ends meet. This year, Wheeling Township is continuing its annual tradition of providing two holiday giving programs; the first enables residents to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and the second ensures families can purchase holiday gifts they otherwise could not afford. The deadlines to become a donor for either of these programs have been extended due to growing needs within the Township community.

“Our residents are our top priority,” said Wheeling Township Supervisor Maria Zeller Brauer. “They are our neighbors and taking care of one another is what community is all about, especially during the holidays.”

Thanksgiving Basket Program: Donor Drop Off Deadline is Friday, November 7
Help a family in need enjoy a plentiful Thanksgiving meal by supporting the Thanksgiving Baskets Program. Donors can contribute by providing a Thanksgiving basket or box filled with traditional holiday favorites - including cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, potatoes, and rolls - along with a $50 grocery gift card so recipients can purchase a turkey, other protein or additional non-perishable food items. Once you register as a donor, a full list of items will be provided to you. All baskets or boxes must be covered before being dropped off at Wheeling Township, 1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, by Friday, November 7.

Adopt-A-Family Program: Donor Registration Deadline is Monday, November 17
Bring some holiday cheer to a local family this season through the Adopt-A-Family Program! This beloved tradition enables donors - individuals, businesses, or organizations - to give back to families with children under the age of 18 anonymously. Donors can choose how many gift cards they will donate and are asked to provide $50 gift cards from Target, Walmart, or Kohls for each family member to be used for the purchase of holiday gifts. Please note: While the donor registration form is due by Monday, November 17, gift cards can be dropped off at the Township (1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights) by Monday, December 1.
