AURORA, IL — Six men are facing charges after an undercover prostitution detail, the Aurora Police Department said Monday morning.

Between 4-9 p.m. Sept. 23, members of the Special Operations Group and Community Oriented Policing Unit conducted a prostitution reversal detailed in downtown Aurora after the department received complaints of prostitution activity.

A female officer posed as a sex worker and was solicited by six men, officials said. Five men were from Aurora — ages 72, 69, 58, 46 and 43 — and a 50-year-old man was from Dolton. All were arrested and cited with solicitation of a sexual act and given notices to appear in court.

"A key priority for the Aurora Police Department is addressing human trafficking and the exploitation that often hides behind prostitution," officials wrote in a news release. "Traffickers use prostitution to control vulnerable people, and by targeting those who solicit sex — the buyers who create demand — investigators work to reduce the market and prevent exploitation."

The Special Operations Group conducts proactive investigations that include firearms enforcement, narcotics cases, and community education and outreach. The undercover prostitution detail was part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety in Aurora, officials said.
