AURORA, IL — Two people — a woman and a boy — were beaten and struck by an Aurora man who invaded their home Sept. 15 before fleeing from police, the Aurora Police Department said Monday.

Nimai Fernandez-Oropeza, 26, is facing several felony and misdemeanor charges following an incident in the 900 block of Wood Street.

Aurora officers were dispatched at about 11:13 p.m. for a report of domestic violence. At the residence, police say officers learned that the suspect physically battered a woman, then struck a boy when he attempted to intervene.

The man knew the woman and had gone to the house to pick up belongings before the batteries occurred, police told Patch.

Fernandez-Oropeza damaged the property before fleeing in a black Dodge Durango, officials said in the release. Police located the SUV and attempted to stop it, but the driver “fled recklessly,” and officers terminated the pursuit “for public safety.” Another jurisdiction also attempted to stop the car before halting efforts.
