Boy, 16, Shot On Aurora's Far East Side: Police
Callers reported a victim suffering from a gunshot wound near a park filled with children playing, Aurora police said.

AURORA, IL — A 16-year-old boy was shot Thursday evening in the 2800 block of Village Green Drive, Aurora police said.
Officers were called to the city's Far East Side just before 5:50 p.m. after multiple callers reported a person suffering from a gunshot near a park filled with children playing. There, they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound "to a lower extremity," officials said in an update.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries as of Friday afternoon, according to a news release.

The Aurora Police Department's K9 unit, special operations group, community oriented policing unit and special response team were called to the scene of the shooting to help secure the area and search for suspects. Detectives from the department's investigations bureau responded to investigate "the specific circumstances of the incident," and evidence technicians collected forensic evidence.
Detectives cleared the area by 7:40 p.m.

When one person commented on the original Facebook alert that they thought U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had been in the area, Aurora police were quick to debunk, saying, "This is inaccurate and misinformation. We have no reports of ICE being here nor having any involvement with this incident."
