AURORA, IL — The "criminal incident" reported Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of South Lake Street was revealed to be a man barricading himself in a store, Aurora police said.

Officers responded at about 8:30 a.m. to 945 S. Lake St. — a residence with a business inside, according to police — after a woman reported that her ex-husband entered the building before her arrival and refused to leave, spokesperson Jim Levicki told Patch on Thursday.

Police safely removed the woman from the business and attempted to communicate with the man, who barricaded himself inside, for more than two hours.

"Multiple efforts to establish contact were unsuccessful," Levicki said, leading to officers leaving the scene after ensuring there was no ongoing threat to the community or victim.

Since officers couldn't reach the man, investigators don't know why he was there or when and if he left, Levicki said.
