AURORA, IL — An Aurora woman was sentenced to four years in prison in connection with a 2023 drunk-driving crash that killed a 67-year-old Naperville man, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Darci L. Klomhaus, of the 900 block of Deerpath Road, pled guilty on Jan. 23 to aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. Judge Julia Yetter determined Tuesday that the 24-year-old woman must serve 85 percent of her prison term before she is eligible for mandatory supervised release and gave her credit for the 419 days spent on electronic home monitoring.

The sentencing stems from a fatal crash on Oct. 6, 2023, when at about 5 a.m., Klomhaus made an illegal left turn from Golf View Road onto Route 56 in Sugar Grove, turning onto the wrong side of the road. She drove eastbound in westbound lanes, toward Interstate 88, until she crashed head-on into another car, Assistant State’s Attorneys Mark Stajdohar and Katy Flannagan shared in court.

Sergey P. Ageyev, the driver and only person in the car, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The investigation revealed that Klomhaus's blood alcohol content was 0.134, significantly above the legal limit of 0.08.

"This sentence brings some measure of justice, but no outcome can undo the loss of Mr. Ageyev's life or ease the pain his family continues to endure," Stajdohar said in a statement. "This case is a reminder that the decision to drink or consume drugs and drive can have irreversible consequences. One person's choice cost an innocent man his life."
