Shooting Suspect Barricades In Residence After Home, Vehicle Struck By Gunfire: Aurora PD

A vehicle and nearby home were found struck by gunshots early Wednesday morning, Aurora police said.

AURORA, IL — A car and residence were struck by gunfire early Wednesday morning, and a suspect in the shooting remained barricaded in a residence hours later, Aurora police said.

As of 8:50 a.m., negotiators and tactical officers were working to "bring the [barricade] situation to a safe resolution" near the 300 block of South Kendall Street, according to an alert from the Aurora Police Department.

Police said the person barricaded themselves in the Kendall Street home after police located a car believed to have been involved in a shooting at about 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of South Fifth Street. The other suspects fled from the car, officials said.

"Residents are asked to continue avoiding the immediate area, and we appreciate the community’s patience as officers work to safely conclude this investigation," police said.

Officers first responded to the shooting after receiving a ShotSpotter alert reporting multiple gunshots in the area. Investigators determined no one was hit, and no injuries were reported.

At 7:54 a.m., the department shared an update saying, "Aurora Police continue to investigate a criminal matter originating within Aurora city limits. ... This is strictly a local law enforcement investigation."
