Whole Foods Opening Store At The Clove: Village Of Buffalo Grove

Whole Foods will replace a previously planned new Amazon Fresh at the site, with both businesses owned by Amazon.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The Clove has officially found its grocery store. According to the Village of Buffalo Grove, Whole Foods has assumed the lease of a building at the mixed-use redevelopment that was originally intended to be a Amazon Fresh.

Whole Foods, which like Amazon Fresh is owned by Amazon, will open the Buffalo Grove location in 2027.

The Clove, located in the center of the village on McHenry Road, broke ground in 2022 at the former 22-acre Town Center. Kensington Development Partners is overseeing the $150 million project that will include retail, restaurants, a park and luxury apartments.

"We're so excited to welcome them [Whole Foods] into the village. We're excited to work with them and getting this grocery building up and going as soon as possible," Nicole Woods, director of community development for the Village of Buffalo Grove, said in an announcement video on BGTV with Village President Eric Smith earlier this week.

The officials also updated other happenings at The Clove, including:

  • The 250, a new luxury apartment complex with around 300 units, is 60 percent occupied. The residential building offers apartments with between one and three bedrooms, a resort-style pool and a fitness center.
  • The design of the one-acre Clove Park, which is owned by the Village, is "being refined" following feedback from the community. Officials teased a spring reveal regarding the space. "I cannot stress this enough that the Village Board is highly invested in this park," Smith said last year. "We think this is going to be the central gathering spot for our community, but we need your help."
  • Dutch Bros Coffee, a national chain founded in Oregon, will occupy the former Burger King location. Officials said it will be one of the first locations in Chicagoland. There are currently Illinois stores in Edwardsville, Fairview Heights and Urbana.
