OAK LAWN, IL — A school bus carrying students to Richards High School in Oak Lawn was involved in a crash Friday morning at 118th Street and Pulaski Road, on the border of Chicago and Oak Lawn, according to CHSD 218 Supt. Josh Barron.

The crash happened between 7:30 and 8 a.m. on the Chicago side of Pulaski Road. Seventeen students were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, while 20 other students refused medical attention and continued on with their school day.

“At this time, we have no reports of major injuries,” Barron told Patch. “Students went to the hospital as a precautionary measure.”

Barron said Chicago police told him that a car veered in front of the bus and the bus driver clipped the car in an attempt to get out of the way. Barron, along with Richards administrators and security, went immediately to the scene.

“We heard about it through 911, we were on it right away,” Barron said. “Our administrators and security officers did an excellent job.”
