A well-known metro Detroit businessman was shot and injured at his home last month

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — More people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a well-known Macomb County businessman at his home last month, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Officials said 61-year-old Eddie Jawad, of Jawad Investments, was shot multiple times at his home in the area of 24 Mile Road and Wellington Valley Drive in Macomb Township at 10:18 a.m. on Oct. 14.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released, officials said.

Rachard, of Sterling Heights, is also facing a conspiracy to commit embezzlement – agent or trustee $1,000 or more but less than $20,000 (a five-year felony). He was also placed in jail and given a $1 million bond. His next court date is Nov. 17.

Dawn Huffman, Rachard Huffman’s wife and the office manager of Jawad Investments at the time of the alleged offenses, was charged with embezzlement of $100,000 or more (20-year felony) and conspiracy to commit embezzlement – agent or trustee $1,000 or more but less than $20,000 (five-year felony).

Dawn, 44, was placed in jail with a $500,000 bond. Her next court date is also Nov. 17. If either of them post bond, they must wear a GPS tether and have no contact with co-defendants.

Prosecutors said Rachard was employed by Jawad Investments from August 2023 until August 2025. Dawn was employed by the business for over 22 years.

During her time there, prosecutors said Dawn was the office manager and handled a credit card intended to pay DTE bills for multiple Jawad Investment properties. Prosecutors said she used that card to steal more than $100,000.

Rachard and Jasan then conspired to "silence" Jawad in an attempt to prevent him from pursuing the matter, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Martin walked through a neighbor's yard and hid between two parked cars in Jawad's driveway. When Jawad drove out of his garage, Martin came out from his hiding place and fired multiple gunshots as Jawad drove past him, prosecutors said.

"Conspiracy to commit murder stands among the most evil and reprehensible of all crimes. It represents not only a willingness to take an innocent life but a deliberate and premeditated plan to do so. I commend the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office for their diligent efforts in bringing these individuals to face justice," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.
