Free Clothes, Accessories As Community Leaders Help Students Prep For Prom In Camden County

Donations were also sent in by Men's Wearhouse.

CAMDEN, NJ — Leaders are making sure students and residents of Camden County are suited for this year's prom season, free of charge.

Beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting into the night on Tuesday, teens are invited to the Camden County Boathouse to pick a prom dress, tuxedo, and accessories that will get them ready for their big night.

"We are giving our young people the opportunity to celebrate this exciting milestone without having to worry about the impact that the cost may have on them or their family," said Commissioner Colleen Bianco Bezich in talking with Patch.

After choosing their clothing, a mini-photoshoot takes place to cap off the session.

"The most satisfying part...is seeing the smile on a student's face when they find their perfect dress or suit, their confidence really shines through," Bianco Bezich added. "It makes me realize that this event is about a lot more than a prom dress."

The donated clothes were collected by the Camden County Board of Commissioners in partnership with the Camden County Sheriff's Office, Camden County Prosecutor's Office, Camden County Police Department, and Camden County Department of Corrections.

Men's Wearhouse has also partnered with the group and will be providing tuxedos and dress suits for free, the County said.

Hundreds of brand-new and gently used options are estimated to be available.

Students are given an experience, complete with a personal attendant to help fill out their vision for what they want their big night to look like.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made on the County's website to retrieve an item while supplies last.

"This event, and others like it, showcases our dedication to serving our residents at every stage of life and our responsibility to creating positive, inclusive spaces," Bianco Bezich added. "In Camden County, we lift each other up...it takes a village to raise a child...this is their village."

The Camden County Boathouse is located at 7050 N Park Dr. in Pennsauken.
