Nigerian-American producer and writer Julius Onah will direct the biopic.
"Samo Lives" celebrates the life of the Haitian-Puerto Rican painter, who rose from poverty to become the youngest artist to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial in 1983.
He died in 1988 at age 27, reportedly of an accidental heroin overdose.
Sotheby's has sold his paintings for millions. His works also have been displayed at the art studio run by the Hudson School in Hoboken.
Meanwhile, Harrison's star continues to rise, as it was recently announced that he'll appear in the next "Hunger Games" film.
