There's Now An Online Auction For All The Sickles/1663 Market Inventory
Anyone can bid on the greenhouses, garden supplies and commercial kitchen appliances. The auction closes at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
LITTLE SILVER, NJ — There is currently an online auction underway to sell the store items and kitchen inventory from 1663 Market (the former Sickles), which closed in January.
The online auction is being run by A.J. Willner Auctions. A spokesman for the auction house said they have been tasked with "liquidating the commercial equipment, kitchen infrastructure, retail fixtures and garden center assets from 1663 Market."
Even the iconic greenhouses that stood in front of Sickles for decades are up for sale. There's stuff even the average homeowner may want to possess, such as a commercial-grade cappuccino/espresso maker, a milk frother, a commercial coffee machine, undercounter freezers and refrigerators, vertical freezers, an ice machine, a panini grill and more. 1663 Market was the high-end food market opened by the Devine, Karp and McCoogey families; it sought to revive Sickles after Sickles filed for bankruptcy two years ago.
1663 Market was only open for six months, having opened in August 2025. The market owners said on their Instagram account they were "deeply disappointed ... three local families did their best to revive what was once a cherished community institution."
The original Sickles Market started more than 100 years ago as a humble farm stand on land owned and farmed by the Sickles family on Harrison Avenue in Little Silver, and sold the fruits and vegetables that they grew. Over the years, the family-owned business expanded to a luxurious garden section, imported meats and cheeses from Europe and gourmet prepared meals.
Bob Sickles, Jr. inherited the business from his family and ran the market with his two daughters. But in the winter of 2024, Sickles Market, plus its offshoot in Red Bank and its liquor store, all abruptly closed and filed for bankruptcy. Sickles' bankruptcy filings revealed a long list of vendors to whom Sickles, Jr. owned hundreds of thousands of dollars to in unpaid debts.
