NJ American Water Replacing Water Mains In Highlands This Month And Next

The installation will take place on North Street from Shrewsbury Avenue to Bay Avenue. It won't be done until the end of November.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — New Jersey American Water is installing 730 feet of new water mains in Highlands, starting this month and lasting through November, the company announced Thursday.

They are installing 730 feet of 6-inch ductile iron pipe. The installation will take place on North Street from Shrewsbury Avenue to Bay Avenue. Their contractor, CRJ Contracting Inc., began work the week of September 8. Work hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.

Final street restorations will be completed by Spring 2026.

The project also includes installing fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route. This is a $250,000 infrastructure investment. This investment is to increase reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community.

Additionally, New Jersey American Water will replace any customer-owned service line that has been identified as lead or galvanized as part of a statewide initiative to remove all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.
