Police Deliver Baby In Car In Monmouth Beach

The baby was born just before 7 a.m. Monday. The baby's father was driving to the hospital and pulled over and called 911.

MONMOUTH BEACH, NJ — Police in Monmouth Beach helped deliver a baby Monday morning, the department announced on Facebook.

The baby was born just before 7 a.m. Monday. Police officers were called to the area of 4 Ocean Avenue for a report of a woman in active labor.

Upon arrival, the two responding police officers found the woman in the car. The baby's father was driving to the hospital and he pulled over when she started to deliver, and called 911, said Monmouth Beach Police Chief Daniel McManus.

Officers recognized delivery was imminent and, working together, the two police officers successfully delivered a healthy baby boy. The baby was delivered in the front seat of a car. He arrived before EMTs arrived on scene.

The mother and baby were in good health and were taken to a nearby hospital. Both mother and baby are doing well as of late Monday.
