Passaic County Woman Hit By Car, Killed In Central Jersey

The woman was attempting to cross a major highway before she was hit, authorities said.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A Passaic County woman has died after she was struck by a car in Monmouth County, according to officials.

Sherril Sakas, 70, of Totowa, was pronounced dead after a collision in Marlboro Township, officials said.

On Saturday, around 7:30 a.m., Marlboro police were called to the area of US Route 9 and County Route 520 on a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

Police found that Sakas was trying to cross from the southbound to the northbound side of traffic when a Honda CR-V struck her, officials said.

She was rushed to Hackensack Meridian Hospital in Old Bridge, where she succumbed to her injuries, officials said.

The driver of the Honda, a 69-year-old Tinton Falls man, remained on the site of the crash, police added. No charges have been filed at this time.
