Wayne Restaurant Temporarily Closed After Roof Fire

Officials said the main electrical service entering the restaurant was found "arching and burning," which caused the roof to catch fire.

WAYNE, NJ — A restaurant in Wayne is closed for repairs after its roof caught fire this weekend, according to a restaurant spokesperson.

Novelli Restaurant, located at 2410 Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, caught fire Monday morning after a transformer ignited, possibly due to the harsh weather of the Nor’Easter.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find that the main electrical service going into the restaurant was found “arching and burning,” causing the roof to catch fire, officials said.

Wayne firefighters were able to extinguish the fire soon after, and no injuries were reported, officials said.

“The quick actions of your Wayne Volunteers helped save this local Wayne staple by containing the fire to just a small area of the roof,” a Wayne Fire Department post read. “Great job today by all who operated.”

A spokesperson for Novelli Restaurant said it could be two to three weeks before the eatery opens back up.
