Woman Dies After Crash On Long Island Expressway: Police
UPDATE: She was taken to a local hospital where she died, Suffolk police say.
RONKONKOMA, NY — A motor vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma Thursday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
Pamela Hanlon was driving a 2017 Toyota Highlander eastbound on the LIE between exits 58 and 59 when she lost control, and her vehicle struck a guardrail on the side of the HOV lane at around 11:40 a.m., according to police.
Hanlon, 61, in Port Jefferson Station, was taken to a local hospital where she died, police said, adding that detectives are investigating whether she suffered a medical incident before to the crash.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
The expressway was shut down while officers investigated, and reopened at around 1 p.m.

It was one of two crashes on the expressway on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, a stolen Corvette was crashed by a drunk driver, police said.
The driver was treated and released into the custody of officers, according to police.
The crash Thursday afternoon was one of two that happened within proximity to each other.
A man was taken to the hospital after a crash on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley just before noon, according to police.
The man was driving a 2020 Kia that struck a delivery truck on the northbound side of the parkway, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Northbound William Floyd Parkway was closed at Brushwood Drive while police investigated.
