Mystery Cat With Bermuda Ties Found Hanging Out At Amazon Warehouse On Long Island

"Frankie," an older gentleman, has a microchip listed to an owner on the island paradise. But how he ended up far away from home is unknown.

(John Debacker)

LONG ISLAND, NY — This cat's got his own tongue as to who he was in his last life.

"Frankie" the cat, a friendly, older gentleman, showed up at Amazon's warehouse in Holbrook one day a few weeks ago, and employees took pity on the tabby, and began feeding him to keep his belly full.

But how he ended up there remains a mystery.

As the story goes, the tabby started to look a little shabby, so animal rescuer John Debacker was called in to wrangle him. Debacker was able to capture the cat on Tuesday, easily by luring him with some food from under a truck where he was hunkering down at the facility.

His appearance aside, he seemed okay and eagerly took Debacker up on his offer of food.

Unlike most of the cats that have wandered into Debacker's life over the years, "Frankie" seemingly has quite a story. When Debacker used a scanner to check for a microchip to see if he has an owner waiting for him, he learned the cat could be traced back thousands of miles away to the island paradise of Bermuda.

From there, with the help of a veterinarian's office in Bermuda, he learned Frankie's owner's name is a woman named Ciara O'Donell.

"He's a little dirty, but he seems okay," Debacker said, adding that he is eating, drinking, and acting normal.

In a visit to a local veterinarian on Wednesday, Debacker learned "Frankie" is around 15 years old and in good health.

The Bermuda Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is now working to find "Frankie's" owner.

The society did not immediately respond.

Debacker says it's unknown how the cat ended up in the warehouse, where goods are stored before being shipped off to customers.

"We're not sure if it was a stowaway," he said.

Patch has reached out to Amazon.

"Everyone in Bermuda is working on this right now," Debacker said.

Many questions remain as to how "Frankie ended up in the warehouse.

Was he shipped to New York by accident?

Is he from Bermuda but moved here and somehow got out.

Is he originally from New York, but his owner moved to Bermuda?

Debacker's not sure, but agreed that either way, "Frankie" would have quite the tale to tell if he could talk.

"He's had such an adventure," he said.
