JENKINTOWN, PA — The Montgomery County woman accused of killing and dismembering her parents is on leave as a special education teacher at an Archdiocese of Philadelphia School, officials confirmed.
Verity Beck, 43, is charged with two counts each of first- and third-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her parents, Reid and Miriam Beck, 73, and 72, respectively.
A representative for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said Beck was most recently employed as a teacher at Saint Katherine School of Special Education in Wynnewood.
"Ms. Beck had not been present in school since the Christmas break," according to the spokesman.
Beck started working at the school in January 2022, the spokesman said.
Before her employment began, background checks and child abuse clearances did not show any history of misconduct, according to the spokesman.
She had no complaints against her while employed at the school, as well.
Authorities allege Beck shot and killed her parents in their Jenkintown home on or after Jan. 7 and dismembered their bodies with a chainsaw.
"We are horrified and shocked by this matter," the spokesman said in a statement to Patch. "She has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal process."
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is providing counseling services to Saint Katherine School community members in the wake of the charges.
"We pray for all those suffering as a result of these acts," the spokesman said.
