Bakery Permanently Closes After Decades In Delco
Local efforts spread last year to support the bakery, 'a beloved staple,' as it financially struggled.

PROSPECT PARK, PA — After decades serving Delaware County, Maria's Prime Time Bakery has permanently closed.
The business goes back to 1986, rebranding to Maria's Prime Time Bakery in 1992. Maria's long operated in Ridley Township before moving two years ago to Prospect Park.
Community efforts to support Maria's arose last year as the business struggled financially. Prospect Park Police Chief Dave Madonna called Maria's a "beloved staple" of Delco and urged people to patronize the bakery.

"Maria’s isn’t just a business—it’s a part of Delaware County’s history," Madonna wrote on social media. "It’s where many of us grabbed a donut, picked up a birthday cake, or treated ourselves to many of her special desserts."
Popular Facebook page "Meanwhile in Delco" also urged people to support Maria's, calling their new spot in Prospect Park a "tough location."

"The road curves going uphill at 40mph, so most people fly right past it," the page said in a post from last June. "The small sign out front doesn’t help either. A lot of longtime customers didn’t even know they moved."
In late January, Maria's announced they would be permanently closing because of slow sales: "I love my bakery and all my customers, but I am no longer financially able to keep it open. Thank you for all your positive feed back we have been receiving. My staff and I will miss all of you and we wish everyone well for the future."
