Belmont University Meal Swipe Drive Aims to Reduce Student Hunger

As finals approach at Belmont University, a collaborative effort is underway to address a concern that too often goes unspoken: food insecurity among college students.

In partnership with the nonprofit Swipe Out Hunger, Belmont Dining and the Office of Student Care & Support at Belmont University have launched a Meal Swipe Drive, allowing students to donate unused meal swipes. These swipes are collected in a centralized “swipe bank” and then redistributed in blocks of 25 to 100 meals to students in need.

The program operates quietly and efficiently. Meal swipes are transferred directly to students’ ID cards, ensuring they can access meals without paperwork or public acknowledgment. The process is designed to be as low-barrier and respectful as possible.

“It’s a small step that can make a big difference,” said Charles Couture, Resident District Manager for Belmont Dining. “No student should have to choose between focusing on finals and finding their next meal. This initiative reflects our commitment to supporting the whole student—body and mind.”

The initiative is part of a national campaign led by Swipe Out Hunger, which partners with colleges to address student hunger through practical, campus-based solutions.

Students can donate unused meal swipes through a link shared on Belmont Dining’s Instagram page (@BelmontDining). Community members are also encouraged to refer students who may benefit from the program by contacting the Office of Student Care & Support at studentcare@belmont.edu or calling 615-460-6407.

The Meal Swipe Drive remains active throughout the year, with ongoing efforts to raise awareness and support across campus.
