<p>Expand
 your definition of functional ceramics through the exploration of 
multimedia adornments and attachments. Lynn Wood will take the students 
through the material exploration of adding wire, metal, twigs, cording, 
and more to your ceramic pieces. Students will be educated on material 
that can be applied pre-firing, as well as cold finishing processes (the

unique voice as they build a technical toolset for the independent

<h3>About the Class</h3>
<p>You’ll
 begin this workshop by staining art tissue using a limited palette of 
transparent acrylic paint, focusing on creating a range of values from 
very light to very dark. Through experimentation with three different 
colors you’ll create interesting, subtle textures. Next, shapes will be 
cut from the tissue, followed by working with the pieces to develop 
composition and collage. For the final layer you’ll add marks with 
paint, pens (Micron), inks, and stamps, adding texture and interesting 
effects. You will have extra sheets of tissue to take home that you can 
use later in your collages or paintings. No prior artmaking experience 
required. This is a fun, easy, step-by-step process. All materials are 
provided. Feel free to bring snacks or a bag lunch to eat while you 
work.</p>

to compose a cohesive series. Working on several panels at once offers 
several advantages, including greater creative momentum, the ability to 
build a strong thematic connection between pieces, and a way to maintain
 creative flow. This technique allows for a deeper exploration of an 
idea or theme than is possible with a single piece.<br><br>We will start
 with short composition exercises to discuss design principles and 
abstraction. Then Catherine will demonstrate her method for mounting 
papers on the panels. You will have ample time to select papers and 
create your designs.<br><br>We will take a short break for lunch between 12:30 and 1:00 pm so please bring your lunch and a beverage.<br><br>What you’ll learn from this workshop:</p>

<h3>About the Class</h3>
<p>When
 we feel a sense of joy, it is natural to express that feeling from our 
body. We may use our voice and sing, we may dance, and we may use our 
hands in creative expression. By drawing we leave a mark of that 
expression. This course is shaped with skill building exercises to 
improve eye-hand coordination with quick sketching and gesture drawing 
and practices of learning to see how to abstract shapes of light and 
dark for developing strong compositions. We will focus on landscape 
imagery from photos and drawing from setups in the studio. Drawing 
outside of class will be encouraged but not required.<br><br>There are 
many health benefits from drawing such as: improvements in cognitive 
focus, freedom of expression with your hands, the satisfaction that 
comes from seeing the world in a different way, the social camaraderie 
of acceptance in the studio, and the joy of doing something with your 
hands.<br></p>

 mission is to explore a creative arts technique socially with our 
community. Print Lab is not a traditional class, but an affordable 
art-making experience. We welcome you to print, play and experiment with
 an activity to create something unique in our printmaking studio!<br><br><strong>In honor of the Cherry Blossom Festival time of year, explore the ancient art of Gyotaku fish printing!</strong><br><br>Gyotaku
 (gyo=fish, taku=rubbing) is a traditional Japanese method of printing 
fish. This practice dates back to the mid-1800’s, when fishermen wanted a
 way to document the fish they caught at sea. Pronounced 
“ghe-yo-tah-koo” the process involves applying inks or pigments directly
 to the fish, and this inked fish impression is then carefully pressed 
and rubbed onto paper.&nbsp;<br><br>In Japan, fish rubbings became a very 
accurate way to preserve and record the species and size of a catch. 
Still popular today as a form of nature printing, it is practiced by 
sportsmen and artists alike.<br><br>Experience a rare demonstration of gyotaku printing and try communal printmaking!<br><br>We
 will have an assortment of real fish “catches” to share and print 
together. Each participant will have the opportunity to make and take 
home 2-3 prints using ink and watercolor on Japanese paper.<br><br>No printmaking experience is necessary. Light refreshments will be provided.</p>

Guided throughout the process, you will utilize essential materials such
 as yarn and crochet hook to learn the basics of expansion, contraction,
 elongating, merging corners, and adding on. Whether for your own unique
 sculptures, or incorporating into your mixed media projects, by the end
 of the workshop you can expect to take home a few small finished pieces
 or work samples to inspire further creativity. A basic understanding of
