Liberty Dining Brings Romance to 10th Annual Speed Dating Event
Liberty Dining turned up the romance—and the disco fever—at its 10th annual Speed Dating event, held at the Reber-Thomas Dining Center

Liberty Dining turned up the romance—and the disco fever—at its 10th annual Speed Dating event, held Feb. 6 at the Reber-Thomas Dining Center. With 240 eager participants, the event created an atmosphere filled with excitement, laughter, and the possibility of new connections.
A campus tradition since 2014, Speed Dating at the Disco offers students a chance to step out of their comfort zones, meet new people, and enjoy a lively evening—whether they’re looking for friendship or a spark of romance. The Great Hall transformed into a retro-inspired dream, complete with disco balloons and themed table runners, setting the stage for an unforgettable night.
“Students used to come dressed to the nines in suits and dresses,” said Duke Davis, district manager for Sodexo, Liberty Dining’s dining services partner. “Now, the vibe is more relaxed, but that just means we get some fun surprises—this year, one student even came dressed as George Washington!”

Demand for the event remained high, with sign-ups filling quickly. However, that didn’t stop hopeful students from trying to get in on the action. Some lined the outskirts of the room, waiting for an open seat, while others managed to rotate through multiple rounds, making the most of the evening’s opportunities.
As disco beats played and conversations flowed, it became clear that whether or not love was found, everyone walked away with a story to tell. Liberty Dining is proud to continue this annual event, reinforcing its commitment to creating engaging, memorable experiences for students beyond the plate.
