Petaluma Cops, K-9, CHP Chopper Used To Arrest Assault Suspect

The man was taken into custody Wednesday night.

A 36-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night for suspected assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and resisting arrest after a violent attack was reported on Castle Drive in Petaluma, police said.

Petaluma Police said the dispatch center received a 911 call, that was transferred from the California Highway Patrol, from a caller reporting that they were a victim of a violent assault that took place at a residence in the 1800 block of Castle Drive.

Officers responding to the residence learned that the suspect was Warren Haley, of Auburn, who had fled the area on foot prior to officers’ arrival, police said.

Police were told that Haley was arguing with a woman and allegedly became angry and violently assaulted the victim, police said.

The victim was reportedly strangled and her cellular telephone was forcibly taken from her, police said.

Because Haley has two outstanding Post Release Community Supervision warrants that involved a felon being in possession of a firearm, the Petaluma PD’s K-9, Basko, was deployed in the area to locate the man, police said.

A CHP helicopter was also deployed, and alerted ground officers that the subject was seen fleeing the area in a creek towards Adobe Road, police said.

The K-9 unit and officers were directed to an area on Adobe Road near Sonoma Mountain Road. The CHP helicopter, meanwhile, radioed that they had last saw the subject go under a bridge.

Officers arrived in the area and shortly thereafter located Haley, who had climbed under the bridge and concealed himself in a small crawl space area, police said.

Haley refused to comply with officers’ commands, however, and he was Tasered and was taken into custody without further incident, police said, and booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
