SANTA MONICA, CA — Iconic Muscle Beach, the original destination for fitness fans along the boardwalk, remains closed in Santa Monica during the pandemic.

"To help slow the spread of COVID-19, Muscle Beach is currently closed," the city states on its website.

Caution tape across all the equipment, including the nearby swing set, and a closed sign are all that's left at the location.

Some locals are still trying to get their workouts in, moving past the yellow tape and removed rings to work on their fitness.

There are a total of 710 coronavirus cases reported in Santa Monica as of Tuesday morning.

Santa Monica city officials extended a local emergency to Aug. 31, a response to the ongoing pandemic and continual recovery efforts across the city. City Hall remains closed.

School campuses also remain closed and school district officials have pushed back the start date for Santa Monica students to Aug. 24. Students will begin the Fall 2020 semester with distance learning.
