Wallingford Man Accused of Pointing Real Gun During Argument in Hot Water With Cops

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Wallingford man has been charged with pointing a little more than a water pistol at man and a woman during an argument in Southington, police said.

At 2:15 a.m. on Monday, Steven Leonard, 30, of Wallingford, was arrested at his residence after being involved in a dispute at 107 Farmstead Road in Southington, police said.

Leonard was charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace, police said.

Shortly after midnight Monday, officers were dispatched to 107 Farmstead Road on a
report of an argument involving a firearm.

Police said an investigation revealed that Leonard confronted a woman and a male acquaintance in a parking lot and during the confrontation, Leonard allegedly pointed a gun with a laser sight, according to a police report.

Leonard then allegedly threw a punch, according to a police report.

Leonard left the scene and when officers made contact with him, Leonard claimed that the gun he displayed was a water pistol with a laser taped to it.

While at his residence, Leonard turned over a .380 cal. handgun with a laser sight to officers, which was was similar to what the victim described, police said.

The handgun and Leonard’s state pistol permit were seized.
