HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — They hope to spread their wings and soar like never before.

At a recent event unveiling a new aircraft, officials at the Harold F. Pitcairn Wings of Freedom Museum mentioned possible expansion plans.

Board of Trustees member Mike Olenick said representatives eagerly anticipate the transfer of 13.1 acres of the former Navy base going to the museum that sits before the property on Route 611.

The land acquisition would allow the museum to expand by more than three times its current size and would help “make our vision a reality,” Olenick said.

During a recent ceremonial signing to transfer over 100 acres of the 862-acre base, officials unveiled a brand plan for the property's development. The property has been officially rebranded as 862 Rise at Horsham.

Officials said the agreement marks a "major milestone" in transforming the base into a vibrant, community-focused development.

The township sees the base as a mixed-use development that would include a town center, office park, regional recreation center, and some housing.

The restoration of a replica of the aircraft used to fly President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957 was dedicated during a ceremony attended by Montgomery County representatives at the Horsham-based Harold F. Pitcairn Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum last week.
