Irvine's nationally ranked park system may get even better (irvinestandard.com) ā Irvine is moving closer to creating a 50-plus-acre public nature park on the current Oak Creek Golf Club site, with a unanimous Planning Commission vote sending the plan to City Council. The proposed park would complete the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, add over five miles of new paths and bridges, and replace a private golf course with free, tranquil open space shaped by resident input.

From Rio's Historic Stages to Carnegie Hall Recognition: How Ana Carvalho Is Building a Distinctive Cross-Border Music Career (laweekly.com) ā A Brazilian-born vocalist who attended high school and college in Irvine is turning local honors, including a City of Irvine music competition win and Concordia University Irvine training, into an international career. Now based in nearby Lake Forest, sheās moving from PBS SoCal specials and Carnegie Hall recognition toward new recordings and festival performances that still build on her Irvine roots.

Young Irvine leaders help fund vehicle for Police Explorer program (irvinestandard.com) ā Irvine teens and community supporters have raised about $100,000 to buy a 14-passenger Ford Transit van for the Irvine Police Departmentās Explorer program, giving local youth better access to trainings and events. Led by twin brothers in the program, the effort drew help from several nonprofits and was celebrated at Irvine Civic Center.

WATCH: OCDE, UC Irvine apprenticeships support Orange County workforce pipeline (ocde.us) ā UC Irvine students are gaining paid, yearlong apprenticeships on campus through a growing partnership between UC Irvine and the Orange County Department of Education. The program gives 36 UCI students structured, mentored work experience and industry-recognized certificates while strengthening Orange Countyās talent pipeline. Local residents benefit as students graduate with clearer career paths and skills tailored to regional employers.
