ELMHURST, IL – An engineering firm is recommending raising the speed limit on a residential street in Elmhurst.

Its recent study calls for increasing the limit on Oakland Grove, which has a median, to 25 mph, up from 20 mph. The current limit contradicts the posted neighborhood-wide 25 mph limit.

Rosemont-based KLOA examined the area with St. Charles Road to the north, Spring Road to the east, Madison Street to the south and Salt Creek to the west.

Throughout the process, officials have generally favored making the residential speed limit of 25 mph consistent throughout town.

Last year, a divided City Council voted to hike speed limits to 25 mph, from 20 mph, on a few streets south of St. Charles Road, despite residents who objected to such a move.

The city's public safety committee plans to review the latest study at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
