Woman Subject To Staring Calls Elmhurst Police

In another case, a woman was scammed in a transaction in a local parking lot, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving disorderly conduct, theft by deception, domestic battery, a fall, road rage, solicitors, a domestic disturbance and a DUI. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Disorderly conduct

  • A woman told police that a person had been staring at her and following her about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue, which is in the area of Elmhurst University and Elmhurst Public Library. The officer spoke with the suspect, who said he would avoid contact with the woman.

Theft by deception

  • A 21-year-old Berkeley man was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of theft by deception. A woman told police the man took merchandise that she advertised on Facebook Marketplace. They had agreed to meet in the parking lot at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive, to conduct the transaction. The man falsely portrayed that he had paid for the items through Zelle, a payment app. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Domestic battery

  • A 34-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 200 block of North Bonnie Brae Avenue was arrested about 1 p.m. Monday at his home on charges of domestic battery, violation of pretrial release and driving with a suspended license. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

  • A man fell and hit his face on the sidewalk, hurting his face and wrists, about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Adelaide Street. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Road rage

  • A 63-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on a disorderly conduct charge. Police said the man was brake-checking a female driver, got out of his car and threatened her near Route 83 and North Avenue. He was released.

Solicitors

  • A 44-year-old Indianapolis man, a 32-year-old Chicago woman, a 39-year-old New Orleans woman and a 32-year-old Denver woman were cited about 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of South Arlington Avenue on charges of soliciting without a license.
  • A resident in the 100 block of East Grantley Avenue told police that a solicitor came to her door asking if she wanted to subscribe to a newspaper about 6:30 p.m. Monday. She donated $50 to him.

Domestic disturbance

  • A man told police that he ordered another person to get out of the car, grabbed the keys out of the ignition and left the area with them. The incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of South York Street. The domestic dispute did not get physical.

DUI

  • A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Monday at York Street and Butterfield Road on charges of DUI, improper lane usage, illegal stopping where prohibited and driving an uninsured car. Police said they were called about a red Ford Fusion off the roadway. The man was taken to the police station and then released.
