Lockport Honors LTHS Girls Wrestling Team

Lockport took second place in the team standings at the girls wrestling state finals.

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council gave special recognition to Lockport Township High School's girls wrestling team.

"This is exciting," Lockport Alderman Darren Deskin said while recognizing the team.

Lockport took second place in the team standings at the girls wrestling state finals, according to IHSA. LTHS senior Claudia Heeney took the state championship in the 135-pound weight class. This year's state championship win marked Heeney's third state title.

LTHS junior Rebekah Ramirez earned third place at the state finals, and senior Sophie Kelner took home fourth place.

Amier Khamis is the head coach for the team.

"The [team] deserves what they got at state. Second place is an amazing accomplishment, and these girls really deserved every piece of it," Khamis said.
