Dangerous Joliet Child Sex Offender Lurks Around Queen Of Apostles Catholic School: Prosecutors
On Friday, the Will County State's Attorney's Office filed its criminal charge and submitted a petition to deny pretrial release for Bailey.

JOLIET, IL — A dangerous Joliet child sex offender, Demarkus Bailey, age 48, was captured on Thursday by the Joliet Police Department in connection with his recurring presence at the Queen of Apostles Catholic School, formerly called St. Paul the Apostle. According to the complaint, the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Bailey with the felony crime of presence within a school zone by a child sex offender.
The complaint indicates that back on Feb. 24, Bailey, a child sex offender, knowingly was present on the property of comprising any school, Queen Of Apostles Catholic School, at a time when persons under the age of 18 were present in the building or on the grounds located at 18 Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet.
On Friday, the State's Attorney's Office filed its criminal charge and submitted a petition to deny pretrial release for Bailey under the Illinois SAFE-T-Act. The Will County Jail logs show that Bailey comes from 51 East Clinton St. in Joliet's downtown area.

According to the filing, on the morning of Tuesday, February 24, around 8:30 a.m., an off-duty Joliet police officer was dropping off his child at Queen of Apostles school on Woodlawn. There, he spotted Bailey, whom he knew from previous contacts.

"This defendant was making a small scene in the vestibule of the parish office, less than 100 feet from the school building," prosecutors outlined. "There, he requested and was denied access to the school building and left. Detective (Cris) Gombosi of JPD confirmed with the principal that defendant did not have children at the school, had no reason to be there, and had no permission to be there. Defendant is a convicted child sex
offender."
Then, on Thursday, March 5, a different Joliet police officer spotted Bailey and arrested him based upon the probable cause, prosecutors indicated in Friday's petition.
The following information from the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Database for Demarkus Bailey shows that he was 21 and his victim was 17 when he committed aggravated criminal sexual assault causing bodily harm in Will County. When Bailey was 18 and the victim was 17, Bailey committed the crime of sexual abuse, also in Will County.

"Additional grounds upon which defendant should be denied Pretrial Release are as follows: Defendant's criminal history demonstrates a continued unwillingness to obey the laws of the State of Illinois, including but not limited to the rules and requirements of Sex Offender registration. We humbly submit that his conduct respecting Orders of This Court are unlikely to vary. See Pre Trial Risk Assessment," prosecutors noted.
