Lightning Strikes Shorewood Two-Story As Major Fire Breaks Out At Home Near River Road
Thursday night's fire drew a rapid response from Troy Fire Protection District plus Minooka and Joliet Fire Department also sent engines.

SHOREWOOD, IL — Thursday night's severe thunderstorms that rocked Will County included a lightning strike that caused major damage to a Shorewood two-story home around 9 p.m.
The fire broke out around 9 p.m. — moments after a major lightning strike in Shorewood's Country West Subdivision off River Road. Nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire.
The blaze was mostly contained by the Troy Fire Protection District to the rafters and attic area above the garage. There were no injuries.

Troy Fire ran the investigation as Minooka and the Joliet Fire Department also sent engines. Several Shorewood police officers arrived on the scene and some of the officers helped divert traffic along River Road. NICOR also sent workers to the scene to check on the utilities.
Thursday night's fire took place on Wheatland Drive, which is two blocks north of Route 52/West Jefferson Street.

By 10:20 p.m., several of the Troy fire engines left the scene since the fire was finally extinguished. A fire restoration company arrived to begin the cleanup and damage assessment process.
