450+ Workers To Be Laid Off At Jersey City Grocery Distributor
A company that provides home delivery services for Stop & Shop will close its Jersey City facility next year.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A company providing grocery delivery services for Stop & Shop customers in the area will close its Jersey City fulfillment center and lay off hundreds of workers, according to documents filed with the state.
Ahold eCommerce Sales Company has filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the state, saying 454 workers will be laid off by March 2024.
The facility, located at 255 Routes 1 & 9, is a provider for Stop & Shop's grocery delivery service (formerly known as Peapod) and fulfills online orders.

AES told employees this summer that it would be shutting down at the end of its March 2024 lease in Jersey City, a spokesperson for Stop & Shop said.
E-commerce orders will be fulfilled in-store and through outside delivery apps after the Jersey City facility closes, Stop & Shop told Patch.

"Stop & Shop remains committed to a variety of fulfillment options for its online customers in order to meet demand and preferences for even faster delivery times," the company said.
Stop & Shop's parent company Ahold Delhaize also owns Giant, Food Lion, FreshDirect, and Hannaford.
